The Project Implementing Unit organized a training on November 2, 2020, in preparation for the next year’s work plan of the “Strengthening Fiscal and Financial Stability” and “Strengthening Governance in Mongolia” projects. The event was attended by the management of the implementing agencies, coordinating consultants, members of the working group, and the project implementing unit staff, and discussed the following subjects.

The Ministry of Finance /MoF/ of Mongolia has facilitated initiatives to disseminate budget information to the public. Today, booklets containing budget information is widely available both in a printed and digital version.To increase budget transparency, citizens' engagement, and further enhance budget efficiency, the Ministry of Finance is successfully implementing the "Strengthening Fiscal and Financial Stability Project" and the "Strengthening Governance in Mongolia Project" in cooperation with the European Union and the World Bank.

The video conference, initiated by the World Bank, was held between the World Bank team and the management officials of beneficiaries, PIU staff, coordinating consultants, and the members of the working group at the World Bank Ulaanbaatar office on October 20, 2020. The purpose of the video conference was to discuss project implementation status and launch of the 2021 work plan preparation process.

Per the initiative facilitated by the Finance Minister Mr. Khurelbaatar Ch, the Ministry of Finance develops and rolls out an Integrated Payroll system (IPS) designed to enhance budget control, accountability, and discipline in Civil service pay, which alone accounts for more than 20 percent of the state budget. The Ministry of Finance has cooperated with the Strengthening Fiscal and Financial Stability project of the World Bank, the Civil Service Council, the Information Technology Center of Custom, Taxation, and Finance, the Bank of Mongolia, the Social insurance agency, Mongolian Tax Administration to simplify payroll transactions and improve coordination among relevant government agencies.

On September 21, 2020, the Project Implementing Unit organized a training event and discussion to introduce the implementation proсess of the Work Plan for 2020, approved by the Project Steering Committee, and the recommendations and tasks given by the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance. The event was attended by coordinating consultants, members of the working group, and staff of the Project implementing unit.

The Project Implementation Unit successfully organized a virtual discussion on neutralizing negative impacts of COVID-19 pandemic to the project activities on May 5th, 2020 requested by the World Bank. The event was chaired by Ms. Caroline Vaira, the WB TTL; and the key stakeholders including the WB Country Office staff, the PIU staff, and the coordinating consultants participated for virtual communication in real time.
